Lord Mayor celebrates National Play Day at Pitsmoor Adventure Playground

10 Aug

August 5th was National Play Day and children at Pitsmoor Adventure Playground celebrated with a family fun day. Lord Mayor Talib Hussain was on hand to officially open the Harry Brearley slide, recently erected on the site thanks to the fantastic fund-raising efforts of local children and parents. The playground is one of the Lord Mayor’s nominated charities during his year of office, and he said:

“The importance of play in childhood cannot be over-emphasised. It allows children to develop friendships, to express themselves and develop their own imaginations. In the current climate of TV and games consoles, National Play Day is a wonderful of encouraging children to go out and be active, to take risks and explore challenging situations in a safe environment.”

The children were certainly prepared to take some risks on their new “thrill” slide, and Councillor Ibrar Hussain also took the plunge! Around the playground children also enjoyed face-painting, dressing up, sports and games.
